Duluth News-Tribune (MN) - March 20, 2005 Deceased Name: William Louis Bill Finn MN United States William Louis 'Bill' Finn, 89, of Superior, died peacefully in Palm Springs, Calif., on Wednesday, March 16, 2005. Bill was born in Brooklyn New York on Nov. 18, 1915 to Max and Lena Finn. Bill's passions in life were his family and sports. He held degrees from he University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he also attended law school and played on the Badger football team, and the University of Wisconsin in Superior, where he was an active supporter of the sports program and inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. Bill was a teacher and coach and upon retirement he owned the Marcus Company Sporting Goods Store in Superior. He started the Superior Youth Organization in Superior which helped build the Little League and Babe Ruth programs and the playing fields that supported those programs. He was an active member of the Elks, Shriners, Masonic Temple, SCORE, University of Wisconsin Alumni Association and Temple Israel in Duluth. Bill will be sadly missed by all of those students, athletes, friends, and family who's lives he touched. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Milton Finn. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Ruth Finn; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Debbie Weisskopf) and Jeffery (Bonnie Benowitz); daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Kanter (Douglas Kanter), all of Minnetonka, Minn.; six grandchildren, Andrew Finn, New York and Jodi Finn, Dallas, Amy and Steven Finn of Minnetonka, Minn., Daniel and Jonathan Kanter of Minnetonka; Bill's sister, Minnie Bergman of St. Louis Park, Minn.; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL SERVICES:12 Noon, Sunday at Downs Funeral Home, 1619 N 19th St. Superior. Shiva Sunday Night at 7 p.m. at 2 East Hayes Court, Superior. Shiva Monday Night at 7 p.m. at 14953 Richards Drive, Minnetonka, Minn. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Temple Israel in Duluth or the University of Wisconsin Superior Foundation.
